Suncor Base Plant — Tank Apron Repair

Prolium Industries subcontracted Two Crossings to perform the excavation, removal and disposal of the existing asphalt tank apron, installation of weeping tile and sheet drain system, pour and finish new concrete apron around the perimeter of the tank. 

Suncor Base Plant — Pond D Dredging

Two Crossings provided Suncor with dredging services to remove sediment that accumulated from surface runoff.

Suncor Base Plant – Gabion Wall Repair

Project Description: 

A 30m section of the gabion basket retention wall in Plant 4 was displaying signs failure. This project included the removal of failed sections and installation of new gabion baskets, re-using the existing rock product. A weeping tile system was installed behind the wall to relieve any hydrostatic pressure and prevent future failure. 

CNRL – U&O Phase 2/3 Civil & Underground

Project Description: 

A wide array of underground piping installation and civil earthworks were performed on this project. The underground scope included modifications to the existing firewater system (i.e. relocation of fire hydrant(s), installation of new hydrant(s) and PIVs) and installation of new manholes and piping for the post contaminated storm sewer (PCSS) system. Labour and equipment support for concrete foundation scope, road construction, containment berm construction and finish grading made up the remaining portion of the contract.

CNRL Horizon — Plant 61C Firewater

Project Description: 

The existing firewater system surrounding Plant 61C did not provide sufficient access to emergency water for the designed expansion of Plant 61C. An additional fire hydrant and isolation valve was tied into the exiting system to meet the new requirements. The high ground water table created challenges on this project. An engineered trench box was used for this excavation to ensure the safety of all workers. 

Suncor East Tank Farm — Hot Bitumen Terminal

Project Description: 

The scope consisted of civil earthworks, with the largest portion being the re-construction of the retention pond. The existing pond liner was removed, slope regraded and stabilized, weeping tile system along with vaults and pumps installed and the installation of new pond liner. 

Site grading, road construction, culvert installation, tank containment berms with polyurea liner, finish grading and pad construction were also part of the scope.

Suncor Voyageur — North, South & Central Lodge

Project Description: 

Suncor’s effort to restart construction on the Voyageur Upgrader Project began with the execution of earthworks for the South Lodge, North Lodge and Central Lodge camp sites. The activities included site clearing, muskeg removal, clay borrow for pad and road construction, site drainage, firewater pond construction, supply and installation of deep and shallow underground utilities. 

The three lodges will serve as temporary facilities to accommodate the labour force required for the Voyageur Project.

Suncor Voyageur — Early Works Program

Performed major earthworks associated with Suncor’s Voyageur Upgrader Project that included site clearing and stripping, muskeg removal, soil salvage, road construction, site drainage, pad/ laydown construction for module delivery and storage and pond construction.

Pond B Infill – Suncor Base Plant

Project Description: Pond B was selected to be the location of Suncor’s new Wastewater Treatment Plant. In order to accommodate this facility, pond dredging and backfill activities were the first steps required in the construction process.

Suncor Voyageur – Central Lodge Camp Complex

Project Description: 

The Voyageur camp accommodation complex was intended to house workers for the upgrader expansion project that unfortunately was cancelled in January of 2009. Prior to cancellation, under the contract management of Ellisdon, CarmacksGroup was responsible for the excavation and backfilling of dormitory and core building foundation structures, excavation, installation and backfill of deep underground utilities (i.e. firewater, potable water and sanitary sewer), well-point dewatering, site rough grading and finish grading, road construction and parking lot construction.
